The gavel, and the agenda behind it

Run by students

That is not a figure of speech. They plan the initiatives, run the events, and fund the operation — under written bylaws, with quorum and a line of succession.

What we govern by

Six core values

They are named in the Bylaws, they decide who is appointed, and every member is expected to embody them.

01

Interpersonal Awareness

Empathy, open communication, respect, integrity, accountability.

02

Kindness

Compassion, understanding, and a willingness to help. The safe room.

03

Strength-Based Leadership

Put people where their gifts clear the bar, and hold them accountable to the shared work.

04

Co-Creation

Transparency and shared ownership over top-down direction.

05

Servant Leadership

Service above authority. You grow so you have something to give.

06

Resilient Agency

Failure is information, not defeat; change is the norm. We adapt, author our own future, and work inside broken systems without becoming them.

The Leadership Team

Three officers, three domains

Each reports to the Director. Officers serve one academic year, Spring Break to Spring Break, and carry two periods: their own Academy course and a mentorship period in a lower one.

Senior officer

President

The heart of the house.

Holds member care and culture across both teams. The person a member goes to when something is wrong, and deliberately outside the operational chain. Opens every Leadership Team meeting with the member pulse, before operations. Senior student face of the Academy to the school and to community partners.

Assistant Director

Marketing & Communications

Everything that brings people toward the Academy.

Recruiting at every level, PR, social, photography and video, branding, and the class representatives. Runs Back-to-School Night, Club Rush, Career Fair, and Freshman Orientation as the Academy’s recruiting face, and MCs Academy events while Operations runs the floor.

Assistant Director

Operations

Everything that makes the Academy run, and funds it.

Events, fundraising, logistics, the calendar, procurement, and the Academy’s shared digital infrastructure. Runs the event floor and the two major annual fundraisers, and runs post-event review as learning — logged, read back to the team, every time.

The General Board

Eight ways in

Every role reports into one of the two teams and carries something the Academy actually needs. Roles are assigned, not volunteered for — including for the quiet member who has not yet found a place, who is given someone to mentor on purpose.

Media Manager

Social accounts, the content calendar, event photography and video, flyers and posters, brand consistency.

Junior Class Rep

Carries Board decisions to the junior class and brings its feedback back.

Sophomore Class Rep

Same for the sophomore class, plus peer mentor to every new sophomore member through their first month.

Technology Manager

Sound, lighting, and projection for every event. Owns the Academy’s technology assets.

Technology Coordinators

AV setup, operation and breakdown; live technical support; cabling, testing, inventory.

Event Coordinators

Setup, decoration, activities, guest lists, volunteers, breakdown, and safety compliance.

Chef

Food service for events and both major fundraisers — inventory, procurement, sanitation, and district compliance.

Members at Large

Versatile contributors across both teams. The entry tier, and the pipeline. Sophomores start here.

Yes, there is a Chef.

Two major fundraisers a year run on food, and someone owns it — inventory, procurement, sanitation, and district compliance included. That is the level this operates at. The jobs are real jobs.

Joining

How you get on it

August

Interest and interview

Structured interviews looking at leadership capacity, commitment, and how you already live the six values.

Early September

Appointed

Sophomores come on as Members at Large, so you learn how the Academy runs before you specialize.

Mid September

Onboarded

Structure, values, systems — and a named person, immediately. New members are handed to a peer, never left to attach to an adult.

Late September

Step up

One or two Members at Large are promoted to Sophomore Class Representative.

Juniors and seniors serve full terms, Spring Break to Spring Break, with full voting rights. Members hold a 2.0 GPA. Students outside the Academy can join as associated members.

If it is not working

Provisional is an on-ramp,not a probation.

A new member who has not found a place yet gets help finding one, if they want one. That is somebody’s actual job here — funded, and on the org chart.

A member who decides this is not for them is let go without penalty, and their choice is respected. Only where fit does not come after real support does it end — with notice, an honest reason, and a dignified exit.

Where someone is not succeeding, the first move is a different seat, not the door.

The focus

Engineeringequity

The Academy develops every student, with an intentional focus on advancing women’s leadership. That focus is structural, not decorative — it shapes appointments to the Leadership Team, the mentorship pairings, and the succession line into the President’s chair.

Succession here is structural too. The President graduates each spring, and a rising Assistant Director is developed toward the chair all year.
